Today’s Top music on Spotify and iTunes

The music industry is constantly changing and one of the biggest changes has to do with the mainstream, default language. For decades, the English language dominated the American music industry.

If a singer wanted to make it in the music industry, they would have to start singing in English. Singers, such as Shakira, Rickie Martin, etc. did do that in the past and successfully made a name in the industry.

But K-pop and Reggaeton are changing what we consider to be popular. Last month, for example the no.1 album in the United States was by a Korean group BTS with almost all of their lyrics in Korean.

Over the last three years, we have seen more than 20 Spanish and Korean billboard hits.

In the last 16 years, only two non-English songs hit the billboards: 1996 when Macarena was released and in 2012 with the surprising (still surprised) success of Psy’s Gangnam Style.

Here are 15 of the top songs on Spotify and iTunes. You will surprised to see that they are quite different from each other.
